Stony William Brooks, a lifelong resident of Cleveland, Tennessee, died Saturday, April 19, 2025. He was the son of George Brooks and Etheline Goins Brooks.
He attended Cleveland and Bradley County schools prior to attending the University of Tennessee Knoxville. There he earned a Master's Degree in Mathematics as well as a Bachelor of Science in Education. After graduating, he began a stellar career spanning over 50 years. He started as an educator in a primary and secondary private school setting.
While there, he discovered his true professional calling as a realtor. He was initially a real estate agent, then a broker, and eventually the owner of his own real estate company and a broad array of real estate investments. He excelled in teaching clients the value of home ownership. Additionally he became an educator in proprietary professional real estate schools locally, regionally, and nationally. He authored several workbooks and textbooks concerning all aspects of real estate practice. He also participated actively in community organizations such as the Chamber of Commerce, Jaycees, Benevolent Protective Order of the Elks, the Boys and Girls Club of America as well other community service groups. He was a man of deep Christian faith and never ceased thanking his Lord and Savior for his many blessings. He had a good life and was a blessing to all who knew him.
Stony was preceded in death by his parents as well as several extended family members. He is survived by his son Byron Brooks, his sisters Brenda Reynolds and Donna Gatlin, other extended family members and many friends.
A celebration of life service will be held on Tuesday, April 29, 2025 at 1:00 pm at Companion Funeral Home - The Ridge Chapel with Reverend Jack Roach officiating. The family will be receiving friends from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm prior to the service. A graveside service is to follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to one of Stony's or one's own favorite charities.
