Kathleen “Kathy” A. Haas, age 71, of McCook, NE passed away on Tuesday, January 6, 2026 in Omaha, NE following a brief, yet courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.
Kathy was born December 22, 1954 in Columbus, NE to parents Walter and Lucille (Schroeder) Kopetzky. She was one of five children. Kathy attended and graduated from Scotus High School in Columbus and then attended Kearney State College receiving her degree in education in 1978.
On January 6, 1978, Kathy married the love of her life, Raleigh Haas, in Columbus. The newlyweds then moved to Ord, NE the following year and then to McCoo in 1984. The couple was blessed with five children.
The Catholic faith was very important to Kathy. She was a long time CCD teacher and active member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in McCook. Her role as Director of The Family Resource Center in McCook was not only her career but most importantly, her passion. Kathy loved helping families and children through the Resource Center and as a long-standing Mentor with the McCook TeamMates Programs where she was also a past board member. Kathy was an avid Nebraska Volleyball fan and Kansas City Royals fan. She enjoyed long walks, reading and yard work.
Kathy was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Raleigh Haas; and her two sisters, Jeanne (Carl) DeRuyscher and Julie Yardley.
Those left to celebrate her life include her children, Jeff Haas of Lincoln, NE, Ryan (Haley) Haas of Omaha, NE, Brad (Molly) Haas of Georgetown, KY, Matt Haas of McCook, NE and Minda (Mark) Kuhlmann of Omaha, NE; brothers, John (Patty) Kopetzky of Lincoln, NE and Kent (Amy) Kopetzky of Omaha, NE; brother in law, Roy Yardley of Lincoln, NE; and her three grandchildren, August, Willa and Lucy.
Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers in Kathy’s honor are suggested to the Family Resource Center, PO Box 222, McCook, NE 69001 or the McCook Humane Society, PO Box 13, McCook, NE 69001.
The Haas Family will greet friends from 6 to 7pm on Monday, January 12, 2026 at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home, McCook.
Recitation of the Rosary will be held at 7pm, on Monday, January 12, 2026 at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home, McCook, with Father Bernard Kimminau as Celebrant.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:30a on Tuesday, January 13, 2026 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in McCook.
Burial of will follow in Calvary Cemetery, McCook.
