Susan Rose (Davolio) Mitchell, 71, a lifelong resident of Shrewsbury, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, after an illness.

Susan leaves her seven siblings: Michael Davolio and his wife Debra, Linda Davolio, Steven Davolio and his wife Sharon, Jimmy Davolio and his wife Joanna, Frank Davolio and his wife Christine, Lee Davolio and his fiancée Wendy Quirion, Janet Wagner, wife of the late Wally Wagner. Susan also leaves two step-sons, David and Steven Mitchell; in-laws, Michael McCarthy, husband of the late Mona, Rita Vermeesch and her husband Roy, Theresa Tokla, Michael Mitchell and his wife Sherry, Billy Mitchell and his wife Cathy, Bob Mitchell, and Dick Decareau; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews, as well as many cousins. Susan was predeceased by her loving husband, Ron Mitchell; her parents, Virginia R. (Gleason) and Leo P. Davolio; and a brother, baby Timmy Davolio.

Susan was born in Worcester, and was raised and educated in Shrewsbury; she graduated from Shrewsbury High School in 1973, and remained friends with many of her classmates.

Susan was employed by the Town of Shrewsbury Police Department since 1995. She worked at various restaurants throughout the years, starting at Donovan's Ice Cream in Shrewsbury, and worked at the Driftwood in Shrewsbury, the Coffee Cup in Auburn, CJ's Steakloft in Northborough, McQuale's in Shrewsbury, and the Piccadilly Pub in Worcester. She also worked at the Sheridan Hotel in Worcester as Banquet Manager, and later at the Yankee Drummer in Auburn. Susan used to say that her favorite job was delivering papers with her brother Steven, when she was 6 or 7 years old.

She was not only an active volunteer, but a dedicated one. Susan held many events throughout the years, not only to raise the much-needed funds for this organization so they could continue their amazing work, but also to raise awareness of what Easter Seals actually accomplishes. Susan was recognized, in 2023, by the Easter Seals of Massachusetts for her many contributions through the years. If you just mentioned Easter Seals to her, she would go on and on about what's going on at Easter Seals and the wonderful people she had met, not just the clients and their families, but also the dedicated staff, including Past President Kirk Joslin, whom she admired and considered, in her own words, "An amazing person with more passion and compassion than anyone I have ever known."

Susan was a member of Saint Anne's Church in Shrewsbury, and was a CCD teacher for many years, serving as Committee Member as well. She was a Town Meeting Member in the Town of Shrewsbury for many years, and was a long-standing honorary member of the Italian-American Victory Club in Shrewsbury.

At Susan's request, in lieu of flowers, please make a donation to MA Easter Seals, 484 Main Street, Worcester, MA 01604, or to Saint Anne's Church (specify Food Pantry in the Memo), 130 Boston Turnpike, Shrewsbury, MA 01545.

A calling hour will be held from 10:15 – 11:15 AM on Friday, August 29, 2025, at Saint Anne's Church, 130 Boston Turnpike, Shrewsbury, followed by a funeral Mass at 11:30 AM. Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery, Shrewsbury. The Britton-Shrewsbury Funeral Home is honored to be assisting with arrangements.

Such beautiful memories of my dearest friend. I like to think of you as a dancing angel with a Hulu hoop. I will miss you so much. My heart goes out to your family and all of us that loved you. Till we meet again dearest. Fly with the angels and rest in peace.
