Susan Kelly Robinson, lovingly known as Kelly, was born on May 19, 1947, and passed away peacefully in her sleep on January 16, 2025, in Spanish Fort, Alabama.
A native of Waverly, Kentucky, Kelly graduated from Webster College in St. Louis, Missouri, in 1969. She dedicated her career to helping others as a social worker and retired from TARCOG in Huntsville, Alabama in 2015. She lived for 26 years in Madison, Alabama, where she touched countless lives through her work and friendships.
Kelly was preceded in death by her parents, John P. Hancock Sr. and Frances Ann Rapier; her husband, Milton Griggs; and her stepdaughter, Cindy Street. She is survived by her daughters, Megan Griggs (Reese Rushton) of Spanish Fort, Alabama, Cassandra Lorey (John Roe) of Canton, Georgia and Mona Hamilton of Owensboro, Kentucky; as well as her cherished grandchildren, Carina Lorey and Watson Griggs. Kelly also leaves behind her sister, Donna Anasti (Frank) of Durham, North Carolina; and brothers, John P. Hancock Jr. (Cherie) of Oak Park, Michigan, Ret. Col. Frank Hancock (Maureen) of Carlisle, Pennsylvania, and Tom Hancock (Jane) of Louisville, Kentucky; along with many beloved nieces and nephews.
Kelly's life was defined by her boundless love for others. As a single mother of four daughters, she poured herself into raising them to be strong and independent women while also caring for family members and supporting friends and clients with unwavering compassion. Her sharp wit and sense of humor were legendary-she could light up any room with her presence or hold court with a lively debate. Whether giving dance lessons in the living room or offering sage advice over coffee, Kelly had a unique way of making everyone feel special.
Her family held a private ceremony on January 18, 2025. A celebration of life will be scheduled at a later date to honor the remarkable legacy she leaves behind.
May those who knew Kelly forever cherish the joy she brought into their lives.
