It is with both profound sadness and deep gratitude that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend, Susan Pamela "Susie" Thomas, on December 18, 2024, in Cottonwood Heights, Utah, at the age of 66. While we mourn her loss, we celebrate the remarkable life she lived and the love, joy, and strength she shared with everyone fortunate enough to know her.
Born on October 2, 1958, in Salt Lake City, Utah, Susie spent most of her life in her cherished home state, surrounded by the natural beauty she loved and the family and friends who adored her. Her love for Utah's mountains, parks, and canyons inspired many family traditions, from rolling Easter eggs in the park to picnic lunches in the canyons. Her adventurous spirit and connection to nature will forever be a part of the legacy she leaves behind.
Susie was a kind, selfless, and loving woman whose warm heart and generous spirit touched everyone she met. Her bright smile and sparkling blue eyes could light up a room, and her laughter was infectious. She had a sense of humor that was unmatched-always quick with a joke, a funny face, or a witty phrase that left everyone laughing. Susie had the rare ability to bring people together, creating moments of joy and love wherever she went.
Family was the heart of Susie's life. She dedicated herself to raising her five children-Nicki, Mandy, Cody, Wesley, and Keaton-with unwavering love and support. She was a proud grandmother, and her grandchildren cherished the deep, meaningful bonds they shared with her. Whether baking cookies at Christmas time, staying up late talking, or dancing around the living room to her favorite songs, Susie found immense joy in every moment spent with her family. She instilled in them her love of music, her adventurous spirit, and her deep sense of compassion, leaving a legacy of love that will continue to thrive in her children and grandchildren.
Susie's kindness and empathy extended far beyond her family. She had a gift for connecting with people and making everyone feel valued. She welcomed everyone with open arms, never judging anyone by their race, religion, or background. Her generosity knew no bounds-even when she had little, she always found a way to give to others. Her love for people was evident in every act of kindness, every conversation, and every smile she shared.
She found joy in life's simple pleasures-decorating her home with a creative eye, singing and dancing to her favorite music, and sharing laughter and stories late into the night with loved ones. Susie's faith was a source of strength and peace throughout her life, and her relationship with God was central to who she was. She found comfort in her belief and passed that faith on to her family as a foundation for strength and hope.
Despite life's challenges, Susie faced every obstacle with resilience and grace. Losing her father at a young age left a lasting mark, but it also shaped her incredible strength and compassion. She taught her family the importance of forgiveness, unconditional love, and looking for the bright side in every situation. Her selflessness and courage inspired everyone who knew her, and her example will continue to guide her family and friends.
Susie is survived by her mother, Yvonne Hatch Thomas; her children, Nicki (Brian) Bodine, Mandy Duke, Cody (Chelsey) Broderick, Wesley (Shannon) Wehrli, and Keaton (Allie) Hanson; her grandchildren, Karlie and Kaden Bodine, Kennedy and Paris Duke, Marcus, Luke, and Grace Broderick, and David Wehrli; her cat, Bootsie; and her siblings Jamie (Blair) Fitch, Shanon Fitch, Carolyn Marco, and David Thomas. She was preceded in death by her father, David Thomas, and her brother, John (Reyna) Thomas.
Though her passing leaves an immeasurable void, we find comfort in the countless memories of her love, laughter, and unwavering strength. She will forever be remembered as the heart of our family, a woman of faith, and a beacon of light to all who knew her.
A celebration of Susie's life will be held on January 11, 2025, at LeJardin (1910 E. Dimple Dell Rd, Sandy, Utah) from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Her family invites all who knew and loved her, as well as friends offering support, to join in honoring her incredible life and the beautiful legacy she leaves behind.
We love you, Mom, Grandma, Susie-always and forever. Rest in peace, wrapped in the love and light of God.
