Clarice Plante Obituary

Clarice Plante, age 99, of Herscher, passed away on Saturday, August 23, 2025 at her home. She was born on April 2, 1926 in Ford County to Ivy and Pansy (Emerson) Haneline, where she was delivered at home by a rural doctor.

Clarice wed Milton "Billy" Plante in 1944 in Watseka. Their witnesses were Jim and Zelma (Plante) Bowers. Later they attended the World's Fair with them in Chicago, where it was held that year.

Clarice attended grade schools in Ford County and Vienna, IL. She attended all four years of high school at Herscher.

She held many jobs in her lifetime: cleaned houses for local Herscher people, cleaned at the State Bank of Herscher, babysat for the former owner of the Herscher Hardware Store; but, most people remembered her as a cook at the Herscher Grade School.

She liked playing canasta, cribbage, bunco, and bingo, and watching Wheel of Fortune on TV.

She is survived by two daughters, Betty Plante and Gloria Bydalek, both of Illinois; two granddaughters, Jody Brown of South Carolina and Kristy Bydalek of Florida; three great-grandchildren, Blake Bydalek and Ashley Bydalek, both of Illinois, and Rivers Gregario of Florida; one great-great-grandson, Charlie Joseph of Illinois; two great-great-granddaughters, Aniston and Salem Umland of Illinois; several nieces and nephews, especially Edna Carter, Charles Farquhar, Diane Buhr, Eldon Plante, Pam Plante, Susan Burrow, Cheryl Saindon, Tim O'Connor, and Ivy Rose Haneline (a grandniece of New York); and her special cousins, Kenneth and Mary Yandell.

Clarice was preceded in death by her husband, Milton "Billy" Plante; her brother, Norman Haneline, her sister, Wilma Farquhar; her nephew, Gary Haneline; and special relatives, Emile Antoinette Rabideau, Orville and LaVonne Plante, Ramona Orwig, and Lorene O'Connor; as well as a special friend, Francis Lochner.

Visitation will be held from 9:00 am until the time of the 12:00 noon funeral service on Friday, August 29, 2025 at Clancy-Gernon-Hertz Funeral Home in Kankakee. Burial will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Goodrich.
