It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of Tarl Dewayne Burton, who passed away on August 3, 2025, at the age of 45. Born on November 24, 1979, in North Carolina, Tarl spent his life in Gastonia, where he was a devoted husband, loving father, son, brother, uncle, cousin and a friend to many.
Tarl was the kind of guy you could always count on. He was fiercely proud of his family, especially his children, whom he loved deeply. His wife, Amanda Burton, will remember him as a dedicated partner and a kind soul who filled their home with laughter and warmth. In addition to his wife, Tarl is survived by his children, Tarl Dewayne Burton II, Tristan Dale Burton and Talena Diane Burton; mother, Cheryl Burton; sister, Alicia Lepino (Michael); nieces, Mary, Elizabeth and Alex; aunts, Phyllis Grimes and Patricia Russell (Robert); and many cousins; who cherished him dearly and will carry his memory in their hearts.
Anyone who knew Tarl could attest to his passion for the great outdoors. He had a special love for the mountains and spent many happy days fishing, enjoying the beauty of nature. An animal lover at heart, he had a particular fondness for reptiles, and his affinity for creatures great and small was evident to all who knew him. Tarl was an avid lover of music, mostly rock and heavy metal. He enjoyed going to concerts and hopping into the mosh pit.
Tarl was not just a family man; he was also a talented machinist. He took great pride in his work, crafting parts with skill and a keen eye for detail. His dedication to his craft earned him the respect of his colleagues and the admiration of many.
A celebration of Tarl's life will be held 2:00 pm August 9, 2025, at Lowell Free Will Baptist Church 3010 Lowell Rd. Lowell, NC 28054, where family and friends will gather to share memories, stories, and laughs in honor of a truly remarkable man. We invite all who knew and loved Tarl to join in remembering him, reflecting on his vibrant spirit and the love he spread to everyone around him. His legacy will live on in our hearts.
Tarl was preceded in death by his father, Ricky Burton; grandparents, James D and Mary Waters; uncles, Dale, Ulan, Richard and Carl Waters; best friend/ brother, Matt "Wildman" Eckard.
