Thelma Warner Obituary

Cimarron - Thelma Carol Warner, 85, died May 11, 2025, at the Shepherd's Center in Cimarron. She was born at her grandparents' home in Dodge City, Kansas on November 6, 1939, the daughter of Arnold and Eleanor Schoen.
Thelma's early years were spent around Dodge City living near both sets of grandparents and extended family. After World War II, Thelma's father, Arnold, went to work managing COOP service stations, so the family moved to several towns in eastern Colorado. Then in Thelma's sophomore year of high school a position became available in Cimarron and Arnold took the job so the family could be closer to relatives. Following graduation from Cimarron High School, Thelma attended Dodge City Community College. She accepted a proposal from Sidney Warner, and they were married on April 24, 1960.
Curiosity and intelligence were two traits you could use to describe Thelma as well as a sense of humor. She was also very creative as she liked to paint, draw, use pastels, make prints and do other various forms of art. Gardening and sewing were other ways she expressed her creativity, and she did them well. Reading was a favorite pastime, so she spent time every day with a book in her hand and later years it was a kindle. Cooking was another talent Thelma had and enjoyed.
Using some of these abilities, Thelma liked to have dinner parties and other parties for family and friends. She also planned and hosted events for the family business. Dancing and having a cocktail were two other entertainments. In her younger years she and Sid went dancing once or twice a week.
Traveling was a favorite activity of Thelma's. Sometimes it was with Sid on a business trip or a Scout trip. Some were family vacations at her insistence, thank goodness! She also took the kids places on short weekend trips to see relatives or with friends. Thelma enjoyed taking her parents to the beach. She thoroughly enjoyed going to England, Scotland and Ireland and seeing the places she had read and studied about in college.
Thelma is survived two children; Sara Schartz and husband Steve of Cimarron; Charles Warner and wife Susan of Cimarron, six grandchildren; Katie and Dustin Ketterling of Garden City, Kansas; Jack Warner of Manhattan, Kansas; Jake and Hailey Ferrell of Wichita, Kansas; Emily Berry of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; and two great grandchildren; James and Callum Ferrell. She is preceded in death by her parents; brother, Tom Schoen; and husband, Sid.
Memorial service will be held at Cimarron Christian Church on Tuesday, May 20, 2025 at 10:30 AM with Pastor Kyle Lawson presiding. Burial will follow at Cimarron Cemetery. There is no visitation as cremation has taken place. Memorials are suggested to the Cimarron Library or the Shepherd's Center in care of the funeral home.
