Ted DeMott, age 77, passed away July 7,2025, after a four-year struggle with illness.
Ted was born March 20, 1948, at Pennock Hospital. He attended Hinds School, a one-room schoolhouse, and graduated from Hastings High School in 1967. He was a member of the FFA. Ted was a mechanic and had his own garage for a period of time. He served as deputy on the Barry County Sheriff Department for many years until he retired. He opened a business called Morwood and concentrated on his love of "making boards" along with his wife, Cheryl. Ted loved life, loved his family, and loved helping people. Ted was adventurous. He loved gardening and trying new things, like growing peanuts. At one time, he bought 1000 sweet potato plants, only to give most of them away. He volunteered his time and talent to many.
Ted is survived by his wife, Cheryl; children, Ted (Amy) DeMott, Karen (Jim) Bailey, Felicia and Cassandra Ames, Tim Kimball; sister, Glenna
Roger) Pashby; sister-in-law, Pam DeMott; 11 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Francena DeMott; brother, Ken DeMott, and in-laws, David and Shirley Ames.
Ted fought for life the past four years, and when his earthly body could fight no more, he was ready to receive his heavenly body.
Cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Arrangements by Girrbach Funeral Home. To leave an online condolence visit www.girrbachfuneralhome.net.
