It is with heavy hearts and deep sadness that we announce the passing of Theresa Ann Lowry on June 26, 2025, at the age of 69.
Born November 22, 1955, in East Chicago, Indiana, Theresa grew up in Schererville, Indiana under the loving care of her family. Her early years were filled with medical challenges, spending her childhood in and out of doctors' offices, undergoing numerous surgeries and procedures.
At a time when resources for individuals with disabilities were extremely limited, Theresa moved to Kansas City, Missouri, at age 11 to receive the care and education she needed. It wasn't until the passage of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 that such services became more widely available, allowing Theresa to receive support closer to home.
In 1991, Theresa found her permanent home at Pathfinders Group Home in Knox, Indiana, where she lived with care, dignity, and friendship until her passing. The staff and residents became her second family.
Theresa was an avid Barbie collector and loved singing Christmas music, always lighting up the room during the holidays. She had a keen memory and a sharp sense of humor, always keeping everyone on their toes.
Theresa is survived by her siblings Pauline (Kevin) Greene, Elizabeth (Edward) Kaesar, and George (Janet) Lowry; nine nieces and nephews; ten great-nieces and nephews; and many cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, Bernard and Evelyn (née Salla) Lowry; her sister, Barbra (Jerry) Burke; and her nephew, Patrick Lowry.
Theresa's life was a testament to quiet strength, resilience, and the power of love and community. Though she may not have known it, her kindness reached far and wide. She will be missed dearly.
"Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God."
– Matthew 5:8
