Thomas Clarkson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Heartland Cremation & Burial Society - Greater Kansas City, Missouri - Rayt on May 21, 2025.
Thomas Leonard Clarkson, 81, passed away on May 17, 2025, in Kansas City, Missouri. Born on February 14, 1944, in Chillicothe, Missouri, to S. Thomas Clarkson and Lois Clarkson, Tom, affectionately known as "Tommy" to some, lived a life marked by service, dedication, and unwavering faith.
Tom graduated from Tina-Avalon High School and embarked on a wheat harvest journey across several states before enlisting in the United States Navy. From December 28, 1962, to December 27, 1968, he served with distinction. His final duty assignment was with the U.S. Naval Mobile Construction Battalion Ten in Danang, Vietnam. During his military service, he received multiple awards and commendations in recognition of his commitment and bravery.
Tom returned to Missouri and began a long career as a heavy equipment operator. He worked for many years with the city of Kansas City before retiring and continuing his work with Jackson County, Missouri. His love for operating machinery was evident throughout his career. Tom also found joy in delivering pizzas for Pizza Hut for many years.
Tom's life was deeply rooted in faith. He faithfully attended and served at The Life Church of Kansas City, where his energy and enthusiasm left a lasting impression on those around him. A devoted student of the Bible, he loved to read scripture and share it with others. Whether through handwritten letters or spoken words of encouragement, Tom had a gift for uplifting those around him.
He was known for his stories and for his generous spirit. Tom had a heart of gold and the heart of a giver. He loved creating memories with his family by traveling, fishing, hunting, baseball games, and local festivals.
Tom is survived by his beloved wife Sally; son Josiah Clarkson and his wife Sarah; daughter Calandra James and her husband Noah; grandchildren Gavin Clarkson and Zoey James; sisters Sandy Nashan, Carolyn Stirling, and Diane Norris (Vernon); as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lois and S. Thomas Clarkson.
A Visitation will be held on May 31, 2025, at 04:30 PM followed by A Celebration of Life, at 05:00 PM at The Life Church, 10400 View High Drive, Kansas City, MO 64134.
