Thomas Fischer Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Joseph J Smith Funeral Home Inc on Jun. 9, 2025.
Thomas J. Fischer of Mahopac, NY passed away unexpectedly on June 8, 2025, at the age of 66. Born on November 30, 1958 in Bronx, NY, Tom grew up in Yonkers where he completed his high school education and enlisted in the United States Navy of which he was a proud veteran.
On September 30, 1983, he married Patricia Sassano. Together, they raised a family that was the center of his world. He was a devoted father to his children, Lisa Nakelski (Raymond), John (Cassia), Peter, and Grace Fischer, and a doting grandfather to Hudson and Olivia, with the joyous anticipation of welcoming his granddaughter Sophia later this month. Tom was predeceased by his parents, Walter and Lorraine (neé Fratalillo) Fischer, and is also survived by his caring siblings, Lori McCreesh, Robert Fischer, and Kathy Swiatowicz, who will miss him deeply.
Professionally, Thomas dedicated many years of service to the Department of Environmental Protection as a Water Treatment Operator. His commitment to ensuring the safety and quality of water for the community was unwavering, and he retired with honors from a career that not only supported his family but also contributed significantly to public health and the environment.
A Life Member of the Secor Sports Club, Thomas found joy in the camaraderie and shared interests of his fellow members. He was a quiet and supportive husband, father, and grandfather, always there to lend an ear or a helping hand. Tom's love for relaxation was best seen in his favorite pastime, unwinding by the pool, where he found peace and contentment in the simple pleasures of life.
All are welcome to attend a visitation on Thursday, June 12th from 4-8PM at the Joseph J. Smith Funeral Home in Mahopac, NY. Tom's Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, June 13th at 10AM at St. John The Evangelist Church, also in Mahopac. A private cremation will be held prior to services.
In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions in his name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Disabled Veterans National Foundation.
