Thomas Lampson Obituary

A private, graveside service for family and close friends of Thomas Patrick Lampson, 90, will be held at Nelson Grove Cemetery, date pending. Tom passed away on Saturday, July 5, 2025, in Gainesville, Texas.
Tom was born February 6, 1935, in Kewanee, Illinois, to Albert Clarence Lampson and Marjorie Helen Morris. Tom was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 56 years, Karen Jeanne Lang, his brother James, sisters Patricia and Bonnie, and nephew, Patrick Lampson.
Tom joined the United States Air Force in 1954 and while stationed in the Azores islands, he was a jet mechanic. After an honorable discharge from the Air Force, he earned his Airframe and Powerplant Certificate, later continuing school to earn his IA (Inspection Authorization) license, becoming an Avionics Inspector. He used these credentials working for airlines, private flight schools, and was FBO-Fixed Based Operator-at various municipal airports around the country. Tom married his kindergarten sweetheart, Karen Lang, on December 29, 1956.
In addition to working in the aircraft industry, Tom and wife Karen managed The Double Eagle Cafe at Buckskin Joe, Colorado. As a team, they owned a horse stable, hosting AQHA shows, NCHA events, local fun rodeos, and other equine-related events. During this time, they also owned three western stores. Tom was a lifelong car enthusiast, personally rebuilding several street rods over the years, and even served on a pit crew at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in his younger years. He was a longtime member of the Top Tin Car Club based in Denton, Texas.
Tom is survived by his five children, daughter Cassy Johnson of Whitesboro, daughter Colleen Hellman (Dwayne) of Lindsay, son Kelly Lampson (Jana) of Denison, daughter Kathy Hand (Kevin) of Huntsville, Alabama, daughter Karen Lampson, Jr., brother Albert Lampson, Jr. of Golden, Colorado, 13 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and 2 1/2 great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
