It is with deep sorrow that the McLain family announces the death of their beloved father, Mr. Thomas Curtis McLain Jr., 64.
Mr. McLain passed away Sunday, June 8, 2025, at his residence after a brief but challenging battle with cancer. Born in Chesterfield County, SC, on February 19, 1961, he was the son of the late T. Curtis McLain, Sr., and Genevieve Gainey McLain.
Beloved by his work colleagues, Thomas was employed by Davis Exteriors, Inc. in Timmonsville until his cancer diagnosis. He knew the fence business and had his own unique style of operating. Loyal, kind, humble, and friendly, Thomas was always in the know. He loved being the first to discover and share news. If you wanted the scoop, the best method of finding out was not by telephone or telegram, but by telling Thomas. Thomas was known for his storytelling and his ability to weave the most mundane topic into a hilarious tale with his gestures, movements, and facial expressions.
Thomas had an infectious smile and could laugh in the face of adversity. While he didn’t possess much in the way of material things, he never hesitated to share what he had and was generous to a fault. He often ended phone calls and visits with his friends and co-workers by saying, “I love you.”
Thomas is survived by his son, Josh (Cassandra) McLain of Fall Creek, PA; daughter and caregiver, Katie McLain (Joey Brown) of Hartsville, SC. He is also survived by five grandchildren: Trevor McLain, Curtis McLain, Lilly McLain, Laycee Zearfoss, all of Chesterfield, SC, and Emily Crawford of Cheraw, SC. In addition, he is survived by three step-grandchildren, Bradion Frantz, Peytion Frantz, and Dawsion Frantz, and his step-great-granddaughter, Oakleigh Frantz, all of Falls Creek, PA.
In addition to his parents, Thomas was predeceased by his wife, Lisa Knight McLain, and his sister, Glenda McLain.
A celebration of life service will be held at St. John Freewill Baptist Church on Saturday, August 2, 2025 at 5:00 PM.
