Thomas W. McNutt, age 78, of Huron, passed away on Friday, June 27, 2025 at Huron Regional Medical Center in Huron. A celebration of Tom's life will be held from 1-4 p.m., on Saturday, July 12, 2025 at Memorial Park in Huron. In case of inclement weather, the celebration will be at the Huron Elks/Fire Pit Pizzeria.
Thomas Wayne McNutt was born on June 26, 1947 in Huron to parents Wayne and Helen (Ferguson) McNutt. He attended Huron schools, graduating in 1965. Tom was drafted into the United States Army but then joined the United States Air Force, proudly serving in Thailand as an airplane mechanic during the Viet Nam War. He was honorably discharged in 1969.
Tom married Sandra K. Wait at American Lutheran Church in Huron on January 13, 1968.
He worked at Flanery Meats and Huron Dressed Beef before working for Red Wilk Construction and Mike Rogers Construction. Tom worked with Mike from 1989 to his retirement in 2009.
In his free time, Tom enjoyed hunting, dirt track racing and Nascar. He also enjoyed having a cold one while fishing. He loved to spend time with his children and grandchildren. He was a member of American Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his children, Kendall (Deloris) McNutt, Scott McNutt, and Tommie (Max) Lewis, all of Huron; grandchildren, Andrew (Chelsea Lupkes) Bobeldyke, Joshua (Chastity) Bobeldyke, Shyanne Jenson, Michael McNutt, Stephanie (Marcellus Frank) McNutt, Tevin (Abby) Nedved, Jordan Bechtold, Tia McNutt, Jeff (Deborah) Lewis; great-grandchildren Novaleigh and Seraphina Lewis; and great-grandbaby due in 2026; brother Michael (Sandra) McNutt; sisters Carol Schlim, Dianne Palmer, Rhonda (Bob) Stanfield, Julie (Kevin) Labrie, and Marsha (Gene Weinreis) Jenson; brothers-in-law Roger Wait and Terry Paye; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sandy; his parents, Wayne and Helen; sisters Shelley Palmer and Gloria Paye; sister-in-law Carol Hines and brothers-in-law Richard Wait and Robert Schlim; two nieces Melanie Nagel and Amanda Weinreis; three nephews Dustin and Bradley Schlim and Wayne Jenson; great-grandson, Colten Bobeldyke; and his parents-in-law.
