Thomas "Tom" Paul Wittau, age 75, passed away peacefully on June 27, 2025.
He was the husband of Theresa Wittau, with whom he raised his daughter, TiShaunda (Michael) McPherson, and his sons, Paul (Elizabeth) Wittau and Matthew Wittau.
Tom was also the beloved grandfather to two grandsons, Malcolm and Isaiah, and the cherished brother of Eileen (Mike) Everard, Rita (Tom) Johnson, Gene (Karen) Wittau, Kathy (Sean) Wittau, Julie (Mike) Wittau, Donna (Dan) Navarre-Smith, and Neil Dylan. He is preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Rita Mae Wittau, brother, Steven Wittau, brothers-in-law, Mike Everard and Sean Harrigan; and aunt and uncle, Eileen and Bob Barthel.
A life-long learner and avid reader of non-fiction, Tom was a man who enjoyed spending his days quietly reading the next book on his list and adding to his vast collection of stamps or being surrounded by the family he raised and adored. His words imparted knowledge, wisdom, humor, kindness, and comfort to whomever he spoke with, something that will forever be remembered and passed on for generations to come.
Tom strongly believed in providing for others whenever possible and would do his utmost to bring even an ounce of happiness to a loved one. He dedicated his life to his family; from teaching his children the importance of pursuing education and how to fight through the darkest of days, to the appreciation of the joyous things life has to offer, such as the art of chess or playing a simple game of solitaire to pass the time. Watching his children and grandchildren grow and pursue their lives to their fullest was his ultimate pride and joy.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Visitation Catholic Church in Elmhurst, IL on July 19th, 2025 at 10:00 AM, with a burial service following at the Maryhill Catholic Cemetery and Mausoleum, in Niles, IL at 11:45 AM. All who knew Tom are welcomed to attend to honor his life and the legacy he left behind.
In lieu of flowers, donations to WBEZ Chicago Public Radio in Tom's name to honor him and his favorite news station and help continue its programming would be greatly appreciated.
