Tia Posseno Russell, 64, of River Ridge, Louisiana, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, July 13, 2025, surrounded by her loving family after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Tia faced every challenge with remarkable strength, unwavering determination, and grace. Even in the most difficult moments, she never lost her positive spirit. She was born on August 24, 1960, to Beverly Deshotel and Glauco Joseph Posseno. Tia was reunited in heaven with her beloved husband, Wayne Jude Russell Sr. She was a loving and devoted mom to Wayne (Emily) Russell Jr. and Jennifer (Raphael) Rodriguez, and she adored being "Nona" to her precious grandchildren-Lila, Margot, Graham, Declan, Julien, and Carson. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Paul Posseno. Tia leaves behind her siblings Mark (Sharon) Posseno, DeeAnne (David) Jewell, and Amy (Andy) Booth, along with her cousin Carlea, who was more like a sister and best friend. She is also survived by her beloved nieces and nephews: Davey and Christina Jewell; Mark Jr., Sarah, and Hannah Posseno; and Annie Booth. Tia dedicated much of her life to serving others. She worked tirelessly for many years as a legislative assistant for State Representative Shirley Bowler and Senator Kirk Talbot. She was a member of the Republican Women's Club of Jefferson Parish and never missed a chance to celebrate Mardi Gras, especially when it meant riding in a parade. Those who knew Tia will remember how she was always ready for a good time on the back porch with friends, a cocktail in hand, and plenty of stories to share. She had a passion for crocheting beautiful baby blankets for family and friends' new bundles of joy. Tia's kindness, laughter, and generosity touched everyone she met. The memories she leaves behind will stay in our hearts forever. The family would like to thank Heart of Hospice for their compassionate care during Tia's final journey, especially her nurses, Kelly and Becky. Family and friends are invited to gather and celebrate her life on Monday, July 21, 2025 at Garden of Memories Funeral Home, 4900 Airline Drive in Metairie, LA. Visitation will begin at 9:00 am with a funeral service at 12:00 noon followed by burial in Carrollton Cemetery #2 (St. Mary's Cemetery) in New Orleans. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Tia Russell's memory may be made to MD Anderson Cancer Center, P.O. Box 4486, Houston, TX 77210-4486 or www.MDAnderson.org/Gifts.
