Tim Alexander, 68, passed away on the morning of Saturday, July 5, 2025, on the farm he spent his life building.
Born Fred Timothy Alexander on June 4, 1957, to Bob and Marilyn (Nims) Alexander. He grew up with a face full of freckles and an ornery smile. He convinced his classmates his name was spelled Phred, but he went by Tim, T, Dad, PawPaw and Big Roller by those who loved him.
A 1975 graduate of Winamac Community High School, he played golf, ran cross country and spent his free time focused on two things: working on his hog farm and pursuing the love of his life, Sue Hoffman. Together they attended Purdue University, where Tim made several lifelong friends - and questionable decisions - as a member of the Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity and Purdue Livestock Judging Team.
Sue and Tim married in their junior year of college, and after graduating, moved back to Winamac where they started their family and their farm. Together they raised three children, Megan, Jim, and Mark, and grew their farm from nothing to an operation of over 4,000 acres. He was his own boss for his entire life, and he took great pride in hard work and its rewards. That hard work extended to his community as well, serving on the FSA and Community Foundation of Pulaski County boards for several years.
Aside from his work ethic, he was known for his incredible sense of humor, a trait that served him well through his entire life, especially in the face of hardship. When a farming accident paralyzed him and he could no longer physically work his farm, he told his family, "It looks like I've been promoted to management." His sense of humor had a way of putting people at ease, even in difficult situations.
Farming and family came first, but those weren't his only passions. He loved history and read every plaque at any museum he visited, even as his family waited at the exit and the lights turned off around him. He loyally followed the Chicago Bears (sometimes with disgust) and his beloved Purdue Boilermakers. He loved finding new music and created a weekly New Music Monday list for family and friends for years.
Nothing made him prouder than supporting his grandkids, from cross country meets to musicals to dance recitals. He taught them Uno and euchre but would never let them win without a fight. He loved the annual family vacation to Traverse City, Michigan, but he looked forward to a drive around Pulaski County to "road farm" and check on crops with his sweetheart just as much.
The road wasn't always easy, but he loved his life and the people in it, especially his wife of 45 years, his children, his grandchildren and the amazing caregivers and farm workers who made it all possible. He was a force of life, and those who knew him well have a model of hope, humor and resilience to live their lives by.
