Those who had the good fortune to know Tim Carmichael can appreciate the strong, honest, trustworthy, hardworking, kind person he was. Tim passed away on July 3, 2025 just a few days after his 76th birthday, due to complications from pneumonia.

Tim had a wonderful dry sense of humor, was plain speaking, and called things as he saw them. Never a complainer, he remained stoic even when dealing with his declining health.

Tim grew up on a Waukesha farm and actively farmed for many years. Even after becoming an operating engineer (Union Local 139) working for Waukesha Lime & Stone (later Payne and Dolan), he remained a farmer at heart, always had eyes on the weather and the crops, and enjoyed collecting Allis-Chalmers tractors. In retirement he continued to indulge his interest in big machinery when working part time for the Town of Lafayette highway department.

Tim was a creative problem solver and could make just about anything work. He was happiest at home and in his later years enjoyed his La-Z -Boy to the fullest. He was deeply loved by his wife Marcia who treasured the loyal, loving, tolerant, gentle, tender and caring side he shared with her in their 44 years of marriage. He will be deeply missed.

Tim is survived by his loving wife, Marcia; his longtime friend Paul Frank; sister-in-law Nancy Carmichael-Stoner; brothers-in-law, Bruce Rettig, Donald Wayne (Amie) Rettig and sister-in-law Carol Rettig. He is further survived by nieces & nephews: Lee (Nicole) Carmichael-Grandstrand, Suzanne (Doug) Carmichael-Adkins; Bruce Rettig, Jr., Stephen Rettig and Karen Barriault; great nephews Mercer Carmichael-Grandstrand and Sean Rettig.

He was preceded in death by his parents Donald and Mary Jane Carmichael, brother Thomas Carmichael, father and mother-in-law Charles and Virginia Rettig, brother-in-law Charles Rettig, sister-in-law Mary Ellen Rettig, and great nephew Oliver Carmichael-Grandstrand.

Marcia and Tim greatly appreciated the superb care he received first at Aurora Lakeland Medical Center’s Emergency Department and then at Aurora Medical Center Summit, both in the ICU and on Unit 3 East. We are so grateful for everyone’s incredible dedication, knowledge, and kindness. At Aurora Summit the interdepartmental teamwork, great communication, commitment to top quality patient care, and extraordinary kindness to Tim’s wife were so very much appreciated and helped ease the difficult days.

A private burial was held at Prairie Home Cemetery.
