With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Timothy J. Van Valkenburg, 67, on April 28th, 2025.
Born on December 28th, 1957 to Robert and Rosemarie Van Valkenburg. Tim was dearly
loved and will be greatly missed. Growing up as 1 of 5 siblings, Tim was an avid
photographer. He carried a deep love for technology, and began working with
computers before anybody knew what they were – he was ahead of his time and became a computer expert.
Originally from Athens, New York, Tim was well known for his sense of humor and wit.
Among the many jobs Tim held while growing up, most notable is the time he spent
working side by side with his brothers and father at O. Van Valkenburg and Sons. There
are many fond stories of his escapades during coffee breaks or while operating the
machinery. Tim was very proud of attending St. Patrick's High School in Catskill, New
York. He could often be seen wearing a camera around his neck and transformed his
bedroom closet into a photography dark room to develop his prints. He founded Action
Sound Studios and was a beloved local DJ for many parties and celebrations. Tim was
also a dedicated volunteer in the local fire department.
In 1985, Tim married his wife Lisa (Brown) Van Valkenburg and eventually moved to
Snellville Georgia, where they ultimately settled down together.
Tim was very patriotic and very involved in many community events and organizations. Tim could frequently be found grilling on his playfully named deck, The Pirates Plank. When visiting family in
New York, Tim never hesitated to bring his cooking with him, or making time to ride his
motorcycle with his father and brothers.
In late December of 2024, Tim retired from the Georgia Department of Agriculture after
working there for more than 11 years as their Webmaster. As part of his role, he
managed the agency websites, created content, and maintained web forums.
He was predeceased by his parents, Rosemarie (Ro) O'Connell and Robert O. Van
Valkenburg, and brother Michael O. Van Valkenburg. He is survived by his wife Lisa of
Snellville Georgia, his brother Robert (Laura) of Coxsackie New York, his sisters Kim
(Lek) of Coxsackie New York, and Lisa (Rick) of Lee Massachusetts, along with many
nieces and nephews.
Relatives and his friends are invited to attend calling hours at W.C. Brady's Funeral
Home at 97 Mansion Street, Coxsackie New York 12051 on Tuesday May 6th, 2025 from
10:00am – 1:00pm, with services as 12:30. Condolences may be made at www.richardsfuneralhomeinc.net. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The
American Diabetes Association or The Athens Volunteer Fire Department.

Tim was a great guy who always made you laugh. A truly great patriot who loved his community here in Georgia. He will be missed by many. RIP Buddy.

I remember Tim when he was a teenager in Athens and I was the police chief. I grew up in the house right next-door to Tim´s grandparents and I knew their family my whole life.. Tim and I served in the WC Brady hook and ladder fire department for many years together. I believe he became a member when he was just a teenager. He was an Athens treasure, as were his parents and his siblings. He died way too young, but he certainly left his mark on his hometown.
Rest in peace, Tim
