Tommy Lee Long, Sr., 74, of 1316 Griles St., Roxboro, died Monday, July 7, 2025. Born in Person County, Mr. Long was the son of the late Joseph and Bertha Morris Long and husband of the late Kay Wilkerson Long. He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Misty Carol Long, his grandson, Kalon Gentry and his siblings, Wayne Long, Ann Long Carr and Brenda Carr. Mr. Long previously worked for Jesse Anderson & Son Construction and later retired from Old North State Homes Construction. He was a member of New Beginnings Baptist Church. Mr. Long served in the US Army during the Vietnam War where he received the Purple Heart. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and the American Legion. Mr. Long loved to fish and tinker on things. He also enjoyed playing the guitar and going to the Timberland with his best friend, Larry Searls.
Mr. Long is survived by two children and their spouses, Tracy L. and Randolph Scott Gentry and Tommy "T.J" and Laura Long; two grandchildren, Ashley Gentry Haithcock and Summer Long Kilgore; three great-grandchildren, Kaydance Gentry, Hudson Haithcock and Brantley Haithcock.
Funeral services will be held 11AM Saturday, July 12, at New Beginnings Baptist Church by the Rev. Chad Benefield. Burial will follow in Person Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10-11AM prior to the service and at other times at the home of T.J. and Laura Long, 412 Dick Holeman Rd., Timberlake.
Pallbearers will be nephews Robbie Long, Benji Long, Billy Joe Long, Tim Carr, Dennis Carr and Wesley Carr.
Flowers are acceptable or memorials may be made to the Person County Veteran's Council, P.O. Box 1923, Roxboro, NC, 27573.
