Funeral services for Mrs. Velma "Neak" NesSmith Cloud will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, at New Hope Baptist Church, Calcasieu, with Reverend Calvin Robinson officiating. Interment will follow in New Hope Cemetery, Calcasieu, under the direction of Rush Funeral Home, Oakdale.
Mrs. Cloud, 79, of Union Hill, entered eternal rest with our Lord and Savior on Sunday, April 13, 2025, at Lake Charles Memorial Hospital, with her son and sisters by her side. She was born November 16, 1945, in Lecompte, to Dave and Gladys NesSmith, and was known to everyone that knew her as "Neak."
Neak was a loving daughter, wife and mother. She was a member of New Hope Baptist Church where she served in many different roles. For many years, Neak and Jimmy led the Jolly Elders. They had lots of travels and time together and shared plenty of fun times. Neak worked at different department stores and as a food service manager at Fair Oaks Nursing Home in Hineston, and at Annie Mae Matthews in Alexandria. Everyone knew her for her picking, joking, and contagious laughter. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
She was preceded in death by her husband of twenty-four years, Carl Banks; her husband of twenty-six years, Jimmy Cloud; her parents, Dave and Gladys NesSmith; two brothers, Larry NesSmith and LeRoy NesSmith; and one sister-in-law, Lois NesSmith.
Those left to mourn her loss and cherish her memory include her loving and devoted son, Kevin Banks of Glenmora; one brother, Otto "Toe" NesSmith of Calcasieu; two sisters, Belvia "Boo" Halbert of Calcasieu, and Savannah "Wissie" Carruth of Forest Hill; and special friend, Jack Johnson of Glenmora.
A time of visitation will be held at New Hope Baptist Church, Calcasieu, on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. until time of services.
Honored to serve as pallbearers are: Jack Johnson, Todd NesSmith, Jeff Townley, David Feucht, Channing Carruth, and Jamie Banks.
The family would like to express thanks to her sweet sitters, especially to Trish "Sherrie" her very devoted sitter. They shared many precious times. Also, her church family and friends for calls, food, visits, but most of all the prayers.
