Dr. Nirmal Kumar Kundu, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully at home on September 27, 2025, surrounded by his family.
Born on April 22, 1937, in a small village in East Bengal, India, Nirmal was one of eight children. From his earliest days, he carried with him a sense of determination, curiosity, and deep love for family that would shape the course of his life.
Nirmal pursued studies in healthcare, but also proudly played professional soccer for India. After college, he set out on great adventures, solo traveling the world and reaching nearly every continent - a true testament to his bold spirit and love for learning. His journey led him to Toronto, where he worked at Sick Children's Hospital for a nearly a decade.
Nirmal and his beloved wife of over 50 years, Sunanda, later made Cleveland their home. There he established Westside Animal Hospital and Canterbury Animal Hospital, serving as a dedicated veterinarian for nearly 30 years in the community.
Those who knew Nirmal will remember him as a man of honesty, humility, and love. He delighted in traveling, watching his favorite television programs, sharing stories, and most of all, being surrounded by his family. He is survived by his wife Sunanda; his two sons, Nab and Neil; and grandchildren, Jane, Jacob, William, and Kaiya.
Visitation will be Saturday, October 4, 2025 from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM, with a puja service and eulogies at 2:00 PM and cremation to follow at Busch Funeral Home, 7501 Ridge Rd.,
Parma, OH 44129.
