Oberlin-Celebration of Life services honoring Verlis Ardoin Fontenot, 91, will be held at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in Oberlin on Saturday morning, August 16, 2025 at 11 o'clock a.m. Rev. Fr. Pradeep Gali will officiate. Verlis's burial service will follow at Assumption Church Cemetery in Basile, LA.

Verlis's family will receive friends and visitors on Friday evening, August 15, 2025 at Ardoin/Allen Parish Funeral Home in Oberlin from 4-9 o'clock p.m. Verlis's visitation will resume at Ardoin Funeral Home of Oberlin on Saturday morning, August 16, 2025 from 9 o'clock a.m. until time of service. All of Verlis's arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Ardoin/Allen Parish Funeral Home of Kinder.

Verlis A. Fontenot was born on Friday, September 29,1933 in Duralde, LA. Born to Houston Ardoin and Gladys (Frank) Ardoin. Verlis was happily married to Joseph A. Fontenot on Saturday, January 13, 1951 until his passing in 1997. From their union they had seven children.Verlis enjoyed Zydeco music and dancing. She also loved to bake, her specialties included homemade donuts, cakes, bread, and biscuits from scratch. She will be greatly missed and forever loved by all who knew her.

Those left to cherish Verlis's memory include her children, Sarah Jane Fontenot, Clifton Peter Fontenot, Linda Marie Fontenot, Barbara Ann Fontenot, Gary John Fontenot; her siblings, Mary Jane Broussard and Rodney Frank; thirteen grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; and a host of extended family members and friends.

Verlis was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph A. Fontenot; her parents, Houston and Gladys Ardoin; three grandsons, Craig A. Fontenot, Eric Tezeno, and Ricky Bushnell; two sisters, Rose Mae Ardoin and Joyce Senegal; and one brother, Austin Ardoin.
