Chaplain Vernon Dale Arledge of Redmond, Oregon left this world on June 9th, 2025. All who knew him are rejoicing knowing his final destination!
Born Sept 10, 1940, in Reno, Nevada, to Luther & Doris (Powning) Arledge. The family moved to Bend where he attended school until his graduation in 1958. Vern moved to Prineville with his 1st wife (Ruth Moore); they had 2 children, Phillip and Jayne, who became the perfect models for his budding photography studio. He was also a volunteer fireman who loved racing his neighbor to the station to see who got to drive the firetruck!
Life found Vern moving back to Redmond, working as a salesman and marrying Darlene(Miller) and adopting her 3 children- Tina, Joyce and Brian.
Vern accepted Christ in Nov 1972. After attending school in Hamilton, Montana, he became licensed & ordained Feb 1985, and began serving the Lord, with his wife, Darlene, singing while he gave his sermons at local churches. Throughout his ministry, Vern officiated hundreds of marriages & funerals in the surrounding area, always ending the service with an altar call. Vern's greatest joy was being able to lead a lost soul to Christ, sometimes in their final moments.
He especially felt humbled and honored to speak at any military service, regretting he could not enlist because of his eye problems. He had the greatest respect for all military members, and all they are asked to do for our country.
Vern spent quite a few years assisting Autumn Funeral Home in Redmond by (his words) "Chauffeuring the Quiet Ones" with peace and respect they so deserved.
Toastmasters Organization 1970-79
Chaplain to Redmond Fire & Police Departments since Aug 1, 1996. Later to include the Deschutes County Sheriffs Office and Oregon State Police in Redmond area.
Oregon Band of Brothers, Redmond
Chaplain to Oregon State Fire Marshall Office, statewide in 2000
Survived by Daughters Jayne(Jeff) Schaefer, Tina (Scott) Schmidt, Joyce(Glenn)Wittenberg, son Phil(Sharla) Arledge, brother Ken(Judy) Arledge, and many grand & great-grandchildren.
His calm gentleness & faith have been a rock to so many, and he would be proud of you for continuing his work.
In HIS service, I Love You All~

Chaplin Vern was one our Fire Department Chaplin's with Redmond Fire Department during the late 90's and 2000's, along with Steve Brodehl. He was such a gift to our Paramedics when we responded on those calls requiring a 4CH or Chaplin assist. His tender heart helped the family of those patients who were critically sick, or in some cases we could not save. He would then focus on helping our crews deal with what we had experienced and seen. I had the pleasure of seeing him regularly over the years and considered him a Friend and Brother. Until we see you again on the other side, rest with the Angels, my Friend.
