Vernon Russom Obituary

Memorial services are scheduled for Wednesday, July 16, 2025 at 2:00 p.m., at First Christian Church of Newkirk. Pastor Martin Foster will officiate.
Vernon was born November 14, 1939 to Vernon Eugene Russom and Ople Maxine (Wilson) in Arkansas City. He graduated from Arkansas City High School and continued at Cowley College.
On March 21, 1989 he married Estelle Harrington in Pocatello, ID and the couple made their home in Arkansas City. They later moved to Newkirk. As a youngster, Vernon had a newspaper route and worked at Strother Field. He started at BNSF Railroad, a job he loved and worked as a conductor from 1964-2007. He was a member of the car club in high school and First Christian Church of Newkirk. Venon enjoyed building, driving and being a mechanic.
He is survived by his wife, Estelle Harrington Russom of the home.
Vernon was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Tyron Scott Russom
Memorials have been established with the First Christian Church of Newkirk or the Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice Center of Wichita.
