Vickey started her working career at Hamburg Shirt Factory alongside her mother and her mother-in-law Clydean Waker. Then, she transitioned into the meat department at Piggly Wiggly and Safeway. She also worked in construction for Brown and Root reading electrical blueprints. She finished off her working career retiring from Brookshires Grocery Company as the Deli/Bakery manager. She also went to night school during this time and obtained her computer information certificate.
Vickey loved to watch Days of Our Lives. You did not interrupt her during this time. She loved music especially George Strait – who was her man – all the way to Cher who she went to see in concert with her best friend, Effie.
Vickey enjoyed crafting, making bracelets, rag quilts for all the family members, and especially enjoyed making Barbie doll clothes for her grown daughters' Barbie collection. She took pride in baking specialty cakes for family functions.
Vickey loved to play softball in her younger days and loved watching the LSU Lady Tigers softball. She loved living on the Bayou with her baby brother and all the friends and family that stopped in every day. There was never a dull moment around there. Vickey was a caregiver. She gave herself to everyone she met. She made friends with everyone, young or old.
A memorial service will be held on August 29 at 4:00pm at Bethel Baptist Church. Bro Tim Post will be officiating, and Buddy Kinney will be reading the obituary. A visitation will be held after the service for family and friends.
Vickey was a cancer survivor and fought her battle graciously. Donations can be sent in Vickey's honor to the Colon Cancer Society.
