Vincent Leon Brysch, age 93, of Runge, entered eternal rest on January 22, 2025, just four weeks after the passing of his beloved wife of 70 years, Annie. He was born to Felix Brysch, Sr., and Mary Dudlefski Brysch on April 3, 1931, in Karnes County, Texas, and was the older of their two sons.
Vincent proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1952 to 1954 as a member of the 24th Infantry Division, 13th Field Artillery Battalion. On October 5, 1954, he married the love of his life, Annie Jane Moczygemba, and they celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary just months before her passing. Vincent often joked that Annie had to marry him because he was the only man taller than her who wasn't related to her! Together, they proudly raised five children and built a life on their family farm and ranch near Runge.
Vincent was a full time farmer and rancher and always had a fulltime job on the side. Early in their marriage, he worked as a doodlebugger in the oil industry. Later, he worked in the weigh station at the Susquehanna uranium mine near Falls City. In the following years, he became a firefighter and firetruck driver at NAS Chase Field in Beeville. As a rancher, Vincent was ahead of his time, implementing rotational grazing long before it became popular. It was just common sense to him, and he didn't need horses to work cattle or move them to different pastures. He often joked that he could either feed his horses or feed his kids, and thankfully, he chose the latter! Their freezer was always full of grass-fed beef and given to family when they visited. He and Annie led by example with their strong work ethic and practical approach to ranching and life.
Vincent was a devoted husband and father, and a loving "Shorty" to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He always put family first and spent countless hours cheering from the stands, hauling band or football equipment to games, getting the pens ready for stock show, checking the blinds and feeders for deer season, and laughing while the kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids shot fireworks on Christmas Eve. He and Annie loved hosting family gatherings, often staying up until dawn playing dominoes. Vincent's classic line was "One more hand!" and the game would continue. Even in 2023, they hosted Christmas at the farm, a cherished tradition. He was a caring patriarch who shared his wisdom and skills in teaching life lessons to his loved ones.
Vincent was active in his community and served on the Karnes County Farm Bureau Board of Directors for several years, on numerous county agricultural committees, and on the Runge I.S.D. Board of Trustees. He was a lifetime member of the Runge V.F.W. Post #9189, and served as District 24 Commander, Judge Advocate, and Chaplain at various times between 1990 and 2010.
Vincent is survived by his children: Linda Yanta and husband Zack of Runge, Karen Salsman and husband John of Driftwood, Vinette Scott and husband Terry of New Braunfels, Michael Brysch and fiancé Wendy of San Antonio, and Larrie Brysch and wife Brenda of Dripping Springs. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Yvonne (Brant) Bourquin, Zachary (Gerilynne) Yanta II, Jeremy (Melissa) Aljoe, Josh Aljoe, Jessica (Jake) Mayo, Kurt "KurtMan" Rathkamp, Aaron (Tram) Brysch, Daniel (Joey) Brysch, and Rosalyn Brysch; as well as great-grandchildren: Bayne, Brynn, Bo, Ava, Ella, Zachary III, Ben, Cate, Weston, Corbin, and Nolan. He is also survived by his brother, Felix Brysch, Jr., of Houston.
Vincent's wisdom, thoughtful advice, and sense of humor will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
A visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Friday, February 7th at Rhodes Funeral Home Chapel in Karnes City. A Holy Rosary will be recited at 6:00 p.m. there that evening.
