Virginia "Ginny" Marie Baker passed away peacefully surrounded by family on April 16, 2025 in Midland, MI. She was born to the late Oliver and Helen (Daly) Patch on May 15, 1941 in Chicago, IL. Ginny married the love of her life William G. Baker on July 11, 1964 and they shared forty-one loving years together until he preceded her in death on February 12, 2006.
Ginny was a graduate of Mundelein College in Chicago and a grade school teacher for 20-plus years in Waukegan, IL and Saginaw, MI. She loved spending time with family and friends, especially summers spent at the pool in Waukegan and annual camping trips. Her favorite pastime was playing bridge and sharing laughs and making friends around the card tables. Ginny volunteered in many ways, most recently serving her community through Civitan International. Ginny was a devoted grandmother, traveling to watch her grandchildren in their events - concerts, swim meets, soccer games, and award ceremonies. She was proud to have visited every US state as well as Ireland, South America, and Europe. If you needed a travel companion, she was always willing!
Ginny is survived by her children; Patricia Flesher, Joan (Christopher) Tiihonen, Tracy (Brian) Marks, Gerri (James) Archer, Robert Baker, and Mary (Jeffrey) Przepiora. Her grandchildren William and Katherine Flesher, Emily and Jack Marks, Nicholas and Brooke Archer, and Matthew Przepiora. And, her Sister In-laws Theresa Patch and Roberta Harmon.
In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by her brother Daniel Patch, her granddaughter Julie Marks, and her Sister In-law Judith Holmes.
A funeral service will take place at 11:00am on April 23, 2025 at Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Parish with Father Rick Filary officiating. Friends may visit with the family from 5:00pm to 6:00pm on April 22, 2025 at Smith-Miner Funeral Home with a vigil service starting at 6:00pm. Friends may also visit with the family from 10:00am until time of service at the church on Wednesday. Virginia will be laid to rest at New Calvary Cemetery at a later date.
Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider Camp Jorn YMCA and/or the Midland Civitan Club in her honor.
