Virginia G Harris Acton, 82, passed away peacefully in her sleep with family by her side on Dec 17, 2024 at the Gadsden Health and Rehab services. Mrs. Acton was born January 9, 1942 in Norwood, MA to Gordon and Sarah Girling. Burial and Graveside services are scheduled for Saturday, March 1, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. at Hillview Cemetery, Alexander City, AL
Mrs. Acton married her first husband, Marvin A. (Beau) Harris on Nov. 24, 1967 and they were married until his death Jan 14, 1982. Mrs. Acton married her second husband, Rev Wade Acton on March 8, 1987 and were married until his death in March 2020.
Mrs. Acton lived in Dadeville. AL for much of her life before retiring to Glencoe, AL Mrs. Acton was always very involved in church and civic activities in Dadeville and was awarded many certificates of appreciation for all her dedicated work. She loved to crochet and was so talented and has taught many people to crochet. She was a volunteer at the Glencoe Public Library and was on the original library board before her health prevented her from doing so. She was very active in churches she attended: the Dadeville First Presbyterian Church, Glencoe Cumberland Presbyterian Church, the Piedmont Cumberland Presbyterian and the East Gadsden Cumberland Presbyterian Church, where her husband served as pastor
Mrs. Acton was preceded in death by her parents, Gordon and Sarah Girling, her husbands Marvin A Harris and Rev Wade Acton, brother George Girling, sister-in-law Ann (David) Girling, brother-in-law Denny (Cathrine} Guillarmod, grand daughter Katherine Harris and son David Harris.
Mrs. Acton is survived by sisters, Catherine Guillarmod and Margaruite Ann Girling, of Citrus Springs, FL, brother David Girling of Hialeah,FL and John (Shelly) Girling of Port Charlotte, FL; children, John M (Susan) Harris of Auburn, AL, Allen C (Kay) Harris of Auburn, AL, Randall (Janet} Acton, Glencoe AL, Candy Acton (Jeff} Norris of Marietta, GA, Cindy Westbrook, Alpharetta, GA. Grandchildren, Hillary Harris, Allison Sangerhouse, Missy (Mike) Harrison, Russell (Melissa) Harris, Natalie (James) Gilbert, Andrew (Sara)) Harris, Adam (Allison) Harris, Laura Louise Harris, Michael {Lindsey) Harris, Tara Acton and Laura Acton{Kevin} John, Lance (Jeni) Norris, Lacy (Jeremy) Kasson, and Kyle Norris, Jessica Mulligan and Christian (Kayse) Mulligan. 21 great grandchildren.
Mrs. Acton had been a resident of Gadsden Health and Rehab for the past two years. The family would like to take this opportunity to give thanks to all the caregivers of Station 1 The family appreciates all the love and care given to her. She cared very much for all her caregivers. We would like to list names of each individual but fearing we might leave one out we will just say thank you to everyone of you. It gives such peace to know your family members are cared for as well as you all cared for your Mrs. Virginia.
