Virginia Sammons Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Greer Funeral Home - Granite on Dec. 30, 2024.
Virginia Rose Sammons, age 87, passed away on December 24, 2024 at The Robert Lee Care Center in Robert Lee, Texas. Born in Granite, Oklahoma on June 19, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Ferdinand Graumann and Hedwig Augusta Hahn Graumann.
On October 19, 1957 she married Air Force Airman David Harold Sammons and spent the next 20 years serving in the very important role as that of a military spouse while raising four children. Due to her unselfishness, faithfulness and devotion to her family, she provided unwavering support to her husband and her country during seven household moves – which included an unaccompanied one-year deployment to the Vietnam War and two assignments abroad in Okinawa (Japan) and Taiwan.
In her retirement years she enjoyed life at "The Ranch" on 20 acres of land just outside of Kerrville, Texas. She was fond of wildlife watching, feeding hummingbirds, deer, a special fox friend, and sitting around the campfire in the evening. She also enjoyed traveling around the country in her RV, taking luxury cruises, playing penny slots, working outdoors, and taking annual family trips to the Texas coast. Most important to her was being surrounded by family.
Family members left to honor her memory are her husband David Harold Sammons of 67 years and their four children – son David Sammons, Jr. (wife Rene and grandsons Joshua, Nathan and Kyle), and three daughters Sherri Trubenstein (husband Matt and grandchildren Jeremy, Shawn, Marcus and Amber); Kelly Wojtek (husband Larry and grandson Chad); and Tonya Sammons (wife Jennifer); her brother-in-law Carroll Jones and sister-in law Shirley Graumann; and 11 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild along with numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ferdinand Graumann and Hedwig Augusta Hahn Graumann, three sisters, Irene Ruth French and her husband R.J., Agnes Bernice Norman and her husband Pete, Barbra Ann Jones, and two brothers, Leon Ferdinand Graumann and Douglas Howard Graumann; nephews Randy Norman and Bradly Jessee; and niece Chantel Graumann.
Viewing will be held at St. John Lutheran Church at 507 Ada Street Granite, OK on January 2, 2025 at 9 am. Memorial funeral services will be officiated by Pastor B.J. Armstrong on January 2, 2025 at 10:30 AM at the St. John Lutheran Church (507 Ada Street) in Granite, OK. Immediately following the church service she will be interned at the Lutheran Cemetery located at E1440 Rd, Granite, OK 73547.
