Walter Ricks Obituary

Walter Ray Ricks (Uncle Ray) of Otis Oregon passed away at his home on Dec. 23, 2024.
He was 91 years old.
He was born in Las Animas, Colorado on April 5, 1933.
Walter was preceded in death by his wife Dixie, mother Anna Belle McKay, father Harry Ricks, stepdaughter Lisa, five sisters and four brothers.
His niece Peggy lived and took care of him for the past few years.
Walter was a veteran who served in the Korean war. Walter was a teacher and substitute teacher in Lincoln City area for many years. He was named the 2006-2007 Oregon Substitute Teacher of the Year out of 8,000. He really loved teaching, and his students meant a lot to him and was loved by many of his students.
He owned a couple of pet stores in California and Oregon over the years and leaves behind a cockatoo named Elizabeth who is about 64 years old. She will have a new home at the Discovery Zoo in Newport, Oregon.
He enjoyed spending time by his pond at the back of his property, cutting wood and raising chickens.
