Wanda Benjamin, 86 of Gilmore City, passed away on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, at the Long-Term Care Unit at the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, at 11:00 AM at the First Lutheran Church in Gilmore City. Services will be live streamed via Lentz Funeral Home's Website https://www.hdezwebcast.com/show/wanda-benjamin. Interment will take place at Marble Valley Cemetery in Gilmore City. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 9:00 AM until the time of the service at 11:00 AM at First Lutheran Church in Gilmore City. Services have been entrusted to Lentz Funeral Home of Gilmore City. Wanda Marilyn Benjamin, the daughter of Troy J. and Violet I. (Edgerton) Day, was born on September 23, 1938 in Gilmore City. She attended school in Gilmore City and graduated with the class of 1956. On August 31, 1956, Wanda was united in marriage to Dennis Lee Benjamin at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Together Wanda and Dennis farmed and raised their six children: Dale, Patti, Michelle, Michael, Nancy and Douglas.
Wanda was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Gilmore City where she held the position as Secretary for 45+ years, she was a Choir Director and an active member of the Rachael Circle. Wanda was a talented seamstress, she made clothes, prom dresses and bridesmaid dresses for her family and church quilts with the women's church group. She was an excellent baker and cook. A favorite tradition was getting together to make and freeze 100 apple pies each summer with the Benjamin cousins.
Wanda and Dennis enjoyed camping, fishing, card club and trips with her brother and her best friend, Don & Karen Day. Once her children were raised, she began work as a courier and enjoyed meeting people and making new friends. She loved to attend and support all activities of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Anyone who knew Wanda, knew she loved the color blue. Her family will remember her as cheerful, supportive, organized, hardworking, and always putting others ahead of herself.
Left to cherish Wanda's memory are her children: Dale (Sheri) Benjamin of Owatonna, MN, Patti (Dave) Cirks of Gilmore City, Michelle (Don) Wauters of Altoona, Michael (Dawn) Benjamin of Pocahontas, Nancy (Paul) Nielsen of Gilmore City and Douglas (Barb) Benjamin of Spirit Lake; Fourteen grandchildren: Brian (Melanie) Benjamin, Barry Benjamin, Ryan Cirks, Jeff Cirks, Mark (Stacy) Cirks, Sheri Wauters, Janielle Smith, Krystal Wauters, Chris Benjamin, Danielle Bonnstetter, Mitch (Laurie) Nielsen,, Megan (Greg) Foth, Brianne Benjamin and Kayla (Chad Plaehn) Benjamin; Twenty-Two great grandchildren: Ethan, Allison, Jaelynn, Cyler, Sophie, Mady, Joselin, Ryah, Avery, Whitney, Mila, Taytem, Baylee, Dexter, Carter, Lincoln, Ryker, Jenna, Tanna, Daina, Lakelyn and Emerick; Brother: Donald (Karen) Day of Gilmore City and numerous nieces, nephews and other family members.
Wanda was preceded in death by her parents: Troy and Violet Day and Husband: Dennis Benjamin.
