Wendell Quick, born May 21, 1943, passed peacefully in Pavo, Georgia, on February 5, 2025, at the age of 81. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and man of deep faith, Wendell lived a life filled with love, music, intellect, and service to others.
A devout Christian, Wendell was a longtime member of Barwick Baptist Church, Barwick, GA, where he served faithfully as a deacon, Sunday school teacher, and sound director. His dedication to his church family was unwavering, and he found great joy in teaching, mentoring, and ensuring that worship services were heard with clarity. His faith was the foundation of his life, and he lived as a shining example of kindness, humility, and devotion to God.
Beyond his faith and family, Wendell was a man of remarkable talent and accomplishment. He spent decades in the agricultural chemical industry, where he worked as a Certified Crop Advisor, using his sharp intellect and deep understanding of mathematics to guide farmers in making precise, effective crop applications. His work helped countless farmers make informed decisions that shaped their livelihoods and communities.
Wendell was also an extraordinary musician whose passion for the guitar led him to some of country music's most legendary stages. A master guitarist, he was an honored inductee in the Atlanta Country Music Hall of Fame, and his talent earned him the privilege of performing at both the Ryman Auditorium and the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville. Inspired by the legendary Chet Atkins, Wendell's playing captivated audiences and fellow musicians alike. He lived for Monticello's Friday Night Jamboree, where he shared his love of music with friends and fellow musicians, bringing joy to all who listened. Whether on a grand stage or in a quiet family gathering, his music was a gift that brought joy and inspiration to those around him.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Yvonne, whose love and partnership were the foundation of his life. Together, they built a family filled with faith, love, and cherished memories. Wendell was a proud father to Cindy (Glenn) Burton, Lynne (Laymon) Gray, and was preceded in death by his beloved son, Michael.
Wendell adored his grandchildren, who brought him immense joy: Kaitlyn, Lane (Miranda), Lexi and Lincoln. He found great happiness in sharing his love for faith, music, and knowledge with them, always leading by example with kindness and humility.
He is also survived by his sister, Elaine Dick and was preceded in death by his brother, Jerry. Wendell leaves behind Jerry's wife, Deborah. his sister-in-law, Sue Griffin, and a host of loving nieces and nephews, all of whom were touched by his kindness, wisdom, and generous spirit.
A celebration of Wendell's life will be held on Sunday, February 9, 2025, at 4:00 PM at Barwick Baptist Church, Barwick, GA.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in his memory to Lighthouse Children's Home in Tallahassee, FL, or Georgia Baptist Children's Homes and Family Ministries in Baxley, GA.
Wendell will be deeply missed, but his faith, wisdom, music, and the love he shared will continue to inspire all who were blessed to know him. His legacy, like his music, will forever echo in the hearts of those who loved him.
