Wesley Baird Obituary

Odessa, Texas - Wesley Don Baird, 70, of Odessa, Texas, passed away peacefully at his home on July 18, 2025. A true West Texan through and through, Wes was known for his grit, humor, and larger-than-life personality. He was the proud owner of Bulldog Iron & Metals until his retirement in 2020, having spent decades building a reputation as a hardworking and fair businessman. Wes was the last surviving member of the legendary "Hollywood Spread," a close-knit crew of pipeline workers renowned for their unmatched ability to lay thousands of miles of pipe across the country - including their remarkable work on the Alaskan Pipeline. Their work ethic, precision, and bond were the stuff of industry lore, and Wes carried that legacy with pride. He was known for his quick wit, sharp tongue, and no-nonsense attitude, but those who knew him best will tell you he had a heart of gold. Whether it was helping a friend in need or taking care of his own with quiet loyalty, Wes lived by a code of integrity and toughness softened by kindness. Wes was a proud 30+ year member of Alcoholics Anonymous, most notably affiliated with the Suburban Group in Odessa, Texas. For the past three decades, he faithfully sponsored numerous individuals on their sobriety journeys and lived his life in accordance with the principles of the Big Book. His commitment to service and recovery touched the lives of many and will leave a lasting legacy of hope and healing. Wes is survived by his daughters Melissa Sullivan and spouse Chris, Emily Gonzalez and spouse Carlos, and Natalie Head and spouse Matt; his sons Wesley David Baird and spouse Bettina and Jeremy Bass; and his sisters Pam Ross and Debbie Solis. He also leaves behind many beloved nieces, nephews, and grandchildren who brought great joy to his life. Visitation will be held at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home on Thursday, July 24, 2025, at 12:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 PM. Wes will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him. Arrangements are entrusted to Sunset Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home.
