Willetta Learthia August was born one of seven children on April 12, 1939, to Melvina McKinney-Turner and Robert Turner Sr., in Houston, Texas.
Willetta attended Crawford Elementary School, E.O. Smith Junior High School and was a graduate of Phyllis Wheatley High School Class 1957.
Willetta joined New Macedonia Missionary Baptist Churchunder Rev. Ed Williams at a young age. She later joined Northside Antioch Baptist Church under Rev. Rose. She moved to Rosewood and joined Greater New Caney Missionary Baptist Church under Rev. Thomas Williams, Jr. She rejoined Northside Antioch Baptist Church under Rev. Prudhomme.
Willetta and Oscar met in 1950 and were happily married for 47 years. To their union they had six children. Her hobbies included sewing, crocheting, fishing, camping, and enjoying her grandchildren. She loved and cared for every person she met. Her loving spirit and guidance touched the lives of many. Willetta always gave from her heart and had a smile like no other.
Willetta was preceded in death by her parents Melvina & Robert Turner Sr., her grandparents Lillie & Jack McKinney Sr., her husband Oscar August, two brothers, four sisters and a Grandchild, Michael Robertson.
She leaves to cherish her memory six children; three sons: Gregory E. August (Elvia "Ava"); Michael W. August (Gail); Roderick August; three daughters: Pamela R. August-Fontenot (Norman), Lakeysha Witherspoon (Eddie), Tasha M. August and a bonus daughter Michell Walker all of Houston; 5-1st Cousins: Claude McKinney, Edie Mae (McKinney) King, Annette (McKinney) Dickerson, Jeannette (McKinney) Gee, Stella (McKinney) Sonnier a n d a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and many more relatives and dear friends.
