William Fay "Bill" Anderson, age 83, of Postville, Iowa, passed away Monday, July 28, 2025.
Bill was born on February 2, 1942, in Castalia, Iowa, to Earl and Marie (Harvey) Anderson. He graduated from Ossian High School in 1959.
On October 27, 1963, Bill was united in marriage to Linda Welzel at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Together, they made their home in Postville, where Bill began working at DX Home Oil in 1963. He helped build the station and was later offered a permanent position. Bill loved his job, especially working on cars and pumping gas. He also served the Postville Fire Department for around 20 years.
Bill was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting deer, pheasant, turkey, and squirrel. He liked both bow and muzzle-loader hunting and also enjoyed fishing. A pet lover, Bill especially liked cats and squirrels, and he once raised a baby coon named Charlie after its mother was lost. Charlie stayed with Bill until he eventually turned him loose.
He found joy in mowing lawn, birdwatching, and snow blowing. He and Linda often enjoyed taking drives, especially through the countryside, watching the crops grow and spotting deer and other wildlife.
Bill was a loyal fan of the Green Bay Packers, Milwaukee Brewers, and Iowa Hawkeyes.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 62 years, Linda Anderson of Postville; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers and their wives, Jerry and Carol Anderson, and Rodney and Lucy Anderson.
A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 2, 2025, at the Postville Cemetery in Postville, Iowa, with Charlie O'Connell as the Officiant.
Schutte-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Postville, Iowa is helping the family with the services.
Casket Bearers will be Charlie O'Connell, Dean Schmitt, Brandon Schmitt, Dylan Oakland, Darby Jellings, John Matt, Lonnie Lyngaas and Mike Rogella.
