Burlington – William Robert “Bobby” Saunders, Sr., 81, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on Thursday, August 18, 2022. He was born in Alamance County to the late Leonard Eugene and Mary Danieley Saunders and was married for 59 years to Glenda Massey Saunders who survives.
Bobby was a lifelong tobacco farmer and attended the former Bethel United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Western Farmers Club and a big supporter of Western Alamance High School football. Bobby enjoyed playing cards with his friends and was a friend to anyone in need. He enjoyed attending the ball games of his grandchildren and spending time with his family. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and brother.
He is survived by his wife, Glenda Massey Saunders of the home; children, Robbie Sue Saunders Norris of Burlington, LuAnn Wooten and husband, Bryan of Wake Forest and William Robert Saunders, Jr. and wife, Tracey of Burlington; grandchildren Kyle Dillon Norris and wife, Jordan, Parker Saunders Wooten and Peyton Robert Wooten; great grandchild, Barrett William Norris and one “Baby Norris” on the way; sisters, Maggie Satterfield of Burlington, Barbara Ann Thompson and husband, Sam of Lexington and Peggy Pickard of Burlington; sister-in-law, Barbara Saunders and a brother-in-law, Currie Lee Lassiter, numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Leonard “Junior” Eugene Saunders, Jr. and Roy Saunders; sisters, Annie C. Woody, Louise Baker, Bessie Lassiter and Sarah Underwood.
The funeral will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, August 22, 2022 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Pastor Darrell Massey with interment to follow in Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 3-5Pm on Sunday at the funeral home and other times at the home. The family would like to say a special “Thank You” to the nurses and staff with AuthoraCare.
