William George Cackowski, 80, of Troy, Michigan, passed away peacefully on June 2, 2025, in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He was born on January 30, 1945, to George and Gertrude (Lepkowski) Cackowski in Detroit, Michigan. Bill was a proud graduate of De La Salle High School and had a career as an Insurance Broker for over 40 years.
An amazing father and loyal friend, Bill cherished every moment spent with his sons. He shared a special bond with his son Rob, especially their time together during Rob's hockey career, which brought them endless joy and unforgettable memories. Bill was always ready to cheer on his beloved Wolverines, Detroit Lions and Tigers, bringing his infectious enthusiasm to every game. His Sunday evening chats with Rob were the highlight of his week, where they could give a play-by-play of that week's sports games and reminisce about their times spent together.
Bill had a love for the simple pleasures in life, whether it was enjoying a delicious plate of fried chicken or indulging in a slice of cassata cake, he truly appreciated the little things that brought him happiness. He also was extremely proud of his credit score, and we joked we would let everyone know that he left the Earth with a score of 819.
Known for his generosity, humor, and passion for life, Bill found great joy in spending time with family and friends. One of his favorite pastimes was golfing with his close friend Barry, where many cherished memories were made on the course. Thankfully, his golf score was not as high as his credit score. He also spoke fondly of his times at Dyer Lake with Ron and the hunting group.
He truly loved being around his friends.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, George and Gertrude, and his sister, Gail (Terry) Bushor. He is survived by his sons, David and Rob (Jennifer), his nieces Lynn (Mario), Janet, and Kris, his grandchildren Eli (Nina) and Jackie, his great-grandchild Noelle, and his close friends Barry, Claudia, Ron & DeeDe, and Kevin & Jackie, who were like family to him.
A Catholic Mass will be held for Bill on June 20, 2025 at 10:00 AM at St. Anastasia, 4571 John R Road, Troy, followed by a celebration of life at 4 PM at Spencer Park. In lieu of flowers, his sons and daughter-in-law ask you to share a Crave Case from White Castle and memories of Bill with your friends and family.
There would be no better way to give tribute to him.
Bill's memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him, and he will be dearly missed. Love you Dad!
