William Henry Grun III, known to many as Billy or Bill, died peacefully at home on July 16, 2025. He was surrounded by his wife of 58 years, Maureen and their two daughters. He was 79 years old.
Billy was born October 22, 1945 to William and Beulah (Robert) Grun in New Orleans, Louisiana, where he spent his childhood. He graduated from John McDonogh Senior High School in 1963. From there he received a degree in Radiology from Charity Hospital in 1966. Bill served our country in the Army during the Vietnam War from 1966-1968. He then went on to earn his Bachelor of Science from Louisiana State University in 1971. In 1978 Bill completed his Master's in Business Administration from the University of Southwestern Louisiana in Lafayette, Louisiana.
On August 6, 1966, Bill married the love of his life, Maureen Cefalu. They raised three children: Bobby, Nicole, and Melissa. The family settled in Kingwood, Texas in 1980 where he lived until his death. Bill worked in various industries: hospital administration, oil and gas, and insurance. He was an active member of St. Martha Catholic Church and Kiwanis Club of Kingwood. One of his greatest joys was being "Baba" to his grandchildren: Avery, Liam, Melaney, and Joshua. Reading to them, giving piggyback rides, and sharing his love of LSU football. He also had the tough task of being father-in-law to Chris and Doug. Bill loved crawfish, Scrabble, but most of all family.
Bill was an influence in many people's lives and his memory will be cherished by all.
He is proceeded in death by his parents, son Robert William Grun (Bobby), sister Julie and brother-in-law John Collier.
Survived by his wife Maureen (or as he fondly referred to as "Mo"), daughters Nicole (Grun-McNeely) and Melissa (Peck), son-in laws Chris McNeely and Doug Peck. Grandchildren: Liam and Melaney McNeely, Avery and Joshua Peck. Sister Amelie and brother -in- law Mike Szczepanski, brother- in- law John and Bonnie Cefalu, cousin-in-law Gail and Castor Surla. Along with numerous loved cousins, nieces and nephews.
We would also like to thank Gina and her amazing team at Aaryn Hospice for their compassionate care.
