Bill was born in 1955 and grew up in St. Louis Park, Minnesota, with his parents Bill and Ruth and older sisters Pam and Pat.
Bill got his private pilot license while in high school. He received his associate degree from Normandale College, where he met his future wife, Joanne. He completed his bachelor's degree in electrical engineering technology from Southwest Minnesota State University in Marshall, Minnesota.
Bill and Joanne were married in 1981, and in 1982 they bought their house in New Hope where they raised their daughters Jen and Ashley. Their middle daughter Kimberly passed away at birth.
The first summer after they were married, Bill's family resumed annual vacations in the Park Rapids area. He loved those vacations and anticipated each one for months ahead of time.
One of Bill's hobbies was woodworking, and he loved spending time in his basement workshop. He and his friend Rick did much of the interior finishing of the family room addition to the house in 2003. He was a handyman who was good at fixing things, having learned many skills from his dad. He found yard work enjoyable and even enjoyed clearing snow from the driveway.
Bill and his brother-in-law Ron traveled together frequently to Las Vegas, Chicago, New Ulm, and other destinations. Always a lover of the outdoors, he went on several canoe trips with his friends Dave and Mark to remote areas in the Boundary Waters and Canada.
Bill enjoyed his career as a manufacturing engineer until his diagnosis of Alzheimer's in early 2016 forced his retirement in 2017. In retirement his favorite outings with Joanne were to Caribou Coffee where he enjoyed many a campfire mocha cooler.
In recent years he had a beloved eclectus companion parrot named Odie, who had a big vocabulary and followed Bill around the house like a puppy. Odie was rehomed by a young couple when Bill and Joanne decided to move.
Bill and Joanne lived in their treasured New Hope home until June 2024 when they moved to Riley Crossing Senior Living in Chanhassen, just minutes from Jen and Ashley's families. The memory care services at Riley made Bill's last months immensely easier and allowed Bill and Jo to focus on enjoying their time together.
