William J. Shimek, age 80, of Manitowoc passed away on Monday, July 7, 2025, at The Villas of Felician Village of Manitowoc.
William was born on November 3, 1944, in the township of Gibson, son of the late Victor and Evelyn (Reznichek) Shimek. He was a graduate of Mishicot High School in 1962 and a 1966 graduate of the University of Wisconsin, Oshkosh. Bill enlisted in the United States Air Force on June 12, 1966, and was honorable discharged on June 12, 1970. He was assigned to study Russian at the Department of Defense East European Language Institute at Syracuse University, graduating in 1967. Bill had several related trainings at a number of military bases following his graduation. He was assigned as Airborne Russian Linguist on recon flights from Japan, South Korea, Okinawa and Omaha, NE until his discharge in 1970. Bill retrained as a computer programmer, systems analyst and database specialist working for the Milwaukee Public Schools until his retirement in 2001.
Survivors include three brothers and two sisters-in-law: Virgil Shimek, Athelstan, Jerry (Mary) Shimek, rural Manitowoc, Ronald Shimek, Whitelaw, Janet Shimek, Manitowoc; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents: Victor and Evelyn Shimek; two brothers: Floyd Shimek and Paul Shimek; one grandnephew: Chrisopher Vogel.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 11, 2025, at the Reinbold and Pfeffer Family Funeral Home, 1124 Main Street, Kellnersville. The Rev. Brian Belongia will officiate with burial to follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Kellnersville. Military Honors will be accorded by the Kubale-O'Connell VFW Post #6179 of Kellnersville. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Friday, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m.
