William Songer Obituary

William "Bill" Lee Songer, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on July 3, 2025, in Nags Head, North Carolina. Born on September 29, 1932, in Los Angeles, California, Bill lived a full and vibrant life of 92 years.
Bill proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army, instilling in him values of dedication and service that he carried throughout his life. After his military service, he embarked on a long and distinguished career in aircraft maintenance. As a Supervisor at Hughes Aircraft in California, Bill dedicated 32 years to ensuring the safety and efficiency of aircraft operations. His commitment to excellence and leadership left a lasting impact on all who worked with him.
In 1987, Bill relocated to North Carolina, where he continued to pursue his passion for racing pigeons. His love for these remarkable birds was well-known among his family and friends, and he spent many joyful hours tending to them.
Bill was preceded in death by his loving parents, Carl and Edna Songer, and his sister, Joan Songer Walker. He leaves behind his devoted wife, Dorothy Craft Songer, who stood by his side through all of life's adventures. Together, they raised four children: Carlene Mitchell (Todd), Randy Songer (Karen), William L. Songer II (Melissa), and Neil Songer (Amanda), who will forever cherish the wisdom and love their father imparted to them. Also, left behind a special nephew, Dale Craft (Linda).
Bill's legacy continues through his four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, who were a constant source of pride and joy for him. He found immense happiness in watching them grow and thrive.
A private memorial service will be held to honor Bill's life and legacy.
Though he is no longer with us, Bill's spirit and the memories he created will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
