William "Bill" Calvin Wilkes, age 60 of Bennettsville, passed away on July 3, 2025, at Scotland Memorial Hospital. Bill was born February 4, 1965, in Bennettsville.
He was a son of the late DW and Mary Lee Freeman Wilkes. Bill worked many years as a painter. He loved being outdoors. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, being in the garden, and sitting by a campfire. Bill was an avid sports fan. He especially loved football and the Indianapolis Colts. He enjoyed music and dancing. Bill was also a pool shark. He was a fun-loving person who always enjoyed being with his friends and family. Bill will be remembered as someone who would help other before helping himself.
In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by a sister, Penny Wilkes.
Bill is survived by his son, Joel Brent Wilkes of Virginia; brothers, Pete Wilkes (Patty) and Tony Freeman both of Rockingham; aunts, Dianne Ratcliffe, Harriet Hunt, Deborah Jacobs, Mamie Jean Jackson, all of Bennettsville, and Carrie Mae Wallace of Wingate, NC; uncle, Ricky Freeman of Bennettsville; several cousins, other extended family members, and a group of very special friends also survive.
The family will have a time of visitation on Monday, July 7, 2025, from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm at Burroughs Funeral Home.
