William Nelson Wood Sr 99 passed away Monday, September 23, 2024, at his home in York.
William was the son of the late Meek Everett Wood and the late Margaret Rachel "Peg" Robinson Wood. He was also predeceased by his wife, who was the love of his life for 64 years, Ruth Hambright Wood, son William N. Wood, Jr. "Billy" and his wife Charley, and his sister Margret Abernathy.
A Celebration of Life will be at 1:00 pm on Thursday September 26, 2024, at Union Baptist Church, 1945 Ratchford Road York, SC 29745. Pastor Ray Long, Pastor Tony Klinedinst, and Pastor Shannon Duncan officiating. Burial will be at Union Baptist Church Cemetery.
Bill "Pop" was loved by all who knew him. If you knew him, you were blessed to hear one of his many tales of life's adventures. He was an active member of Union Baptist Church for 99 years starting with the cradle roll and serving as a deacon for 64 years. He loved his church family! He was a WWII veteran, a Mason, and a Shriner. He started his career building many of the roads in York County. In 1973, William (Bill) established WN Wood and Sons which erected metal buildings for more than 40 years. After retiring, he pursued his love of riding horses. He always looking forward to 20 mile rides on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
He is survived by sons Ted (Wanda) Wood, and Brent (Ken Williams) Wood, grandchildren Whitney Dee, Amanda Ball (Mike), Annslee (Jason) Connor, Candy Sexton, Ted Wood Jr, Kym McFerrin (Chad), and 18 great grandchildren, his brother Joey (Ann) Wood, sister in law Teresa Bland, his church family and caregivers Will Ramey, Linda Jo Wyatt, Ana Garica and Krista "Lucky" Beattie.
Memorials may be made to Union Baptist Church.
