WINIFRED LAURA JACK January 19, 1925 – July 07, 2025
Winifred Laura Jack, age one hundred, passed away peacefully at her home on July 07, 2025, in Highland Park, Michigan. Winifred, (Winnie to all who knew her), was born in Detroit, Michigan on January 19, 1925, to James Earl Jack, and Luella Mae Keller.
Winfred grew up in Detroit. As a little girl, she attended Thurkell Elementary School. She then attended and graduated from Northern High School. In 1943 she continued her education at Wayne State University, where she received a bachelor's degree in business administration. Winifred also studied abroad in Europe, including Germany. Following her studies, Winnie then spent her entire career as a secretary with Chrysler Corporation. She retired in October of 1989.
In 1964 Winifred's mom purchased a home in Highland Park. This home was then given to Winnie, which she resided in for 61 years. It is here where she met her dear friend, neighbor, and caregiver, Lisa Bonner.
Winnie met Lisa in 2004 through her friends, brother and sister, Patrick and Theresa Woolridge. Theresa was Winnie's next-door neighbor at the time. In 2013, when Theresa moved out of her house, Lisa moved in, and she and Winnie became neighbors. Winnie and Lisa were fondly known as "Thelma and Louise" to those who knew them.
As a young woman, she loved to play tennis, travel, and drive fancy cars. As an older woman, she loved to talk politics and history. One of her favorite pastimes was watching westerns, and games shows on television. She was also known for her interesting quips! Her favorite quotes were: "If you don't listen, you'll feel," "You are as welcome as the flowers in May," and "I'm happy as a flea on a dog's back." Winifred will be missed by all who loved and knew her.
Winifred has known a numerous amount of people throughout her 100 years, however, there are two special people she leaves behind, whom she has known for over 60 years, Richard Schultz and Sigrid Schlitt.
There will be a visitation on Wednesday, July 16th from 10:00 am – 12:00 pm at Kernan Funeral Services, 1020 Fort Street, Lincoln Park, Michigan, followed by a funeral service at 12:00 pm. Winifred's burial will take place 2:00 pm, the same day at Woodlawn Cemetery, 19975 Woodward Avenue, Detroit, Michigan, 48203.
