Mrs. Wynette Chitwood Gazaway, age 99, of Rocky Face, Georgia, passed away on Saturday, July 19, 2025, exactly two weeks shy of her 100th birthday.
She was born on Sunday, August 2, 1925, in Resaca, Georgia, to the late Mr. Warren Chitwood and Mrs. Dora Keene Chitwood.
In addition to her parents, Wynette is preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Jack E. Gazaway.
She is also preceded in death by her six sisters: Jessie Thomason, Flora Stone, Bertha Defoor, Malvia Poole, Iduma Mortensen, and Aveline Franks. She is further preceded in death by her three brothers: Wilburn Chitwood, Watson Chitwood, and Colbert Chitwood.
Wynette is survived by her three children: her sons, Terry Gazaway and Reggie Gazaway, and her daughter, Tria (Arnold) Ledford, all of Rocky Face, Georgia. She is also survived by her sister, Jean Hefner of Rocky Face, Georgia.
Wynette is also survived by her two grandchildren, Logan Gazaway of Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia, and Lindsey (Zach) Kenemer of Apison, Tennessee; her twin great-granddaughters, Nora and Shelby Kenemer; her two step-grandchildren, Shane (Holly) Ledford and Kristy Ledford; and her two step great-grandchildren, Landen Ledford and Jackson Williams. Wynette is further survived by her several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services to honor and celebrate the life of Wynette Chitwood Gazaway will be conducted on Saturday, July 26, 2025, at 2:00 P.M. at Center Point Baptist Church in Dalton, Georgia (420 Center Point Dr SE, Dalton, GA 30721) with Rev. George Ross and Rev. Matthew Futch officiating. Wynette will be laid to rest following the service next to her husband at Swamp Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
Wynette's family will receive friends for visitation at Love Funeral Home on Friday evening, July 25, 2025, from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M.
Per Wynette's wishes that she expressed during her lifetime, her family asks that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made in her memory to Center Point Baptist Church.
