Wyoma G. "Omie" Durden, a cherished mother, MiMi, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 1, 2025, in Sneads, Florida, at the age of 81. Born on December 16, 1943, in Dellwood, Florida, to the late Hinton Hatcher and Jeanette Mitchell Hatcher, Omie was a model of joy and strength to all who knew her.

A proud 1963 graduate of Chattahoochee High School, Omie's zest for life and love for her community were evident early on. She began her career working part-time at Florida State Hospital while pursuing her passion for beauty at Chipola Junior College. Omie's skilled hands and warm conversation made her a beloved beautician for twelve years. Her dedication to care and service led her to a full-time position at Florida State Hospital, where she worked for 34 years, retiring as a Unit Treatment and Rehabilitation Specialist II. Her colleagues remember her as a steadfast and compassionate professional who uplifted the spirits of everyone around her.

Omie lived in Chattahoochee, Florida, for most of her adult life, creating a home filled with love and laughter. She recently moved to Sneads, Florida, where she continued to make fond memories with her family and friends. A devout Christian, she found strength and solace in her faith. Omie cherished the times she could attend services at the First United Methodist Church in Chattahoochee, and Sneads Assembly of God.

Her life was marked by an unwavering devotion to her family. She is survived by her loving daughter, Brandee L. Godwin and her husband Brian; her adoring grandchildren, Autumn, Shane and his wife Lindsey, Peyton, Brylee Emerson, and Noah Augustus; her cherished great-grandchild, Shane Joshua Windon Yon, with one more blessing on the way. Omie also leaves behind her brother, Robert Hatcher and a very special friend, Elosie Faison, who was more like a sister to her. She was preceded in death by her parents, her son Shane Mitchell Durden, and her brother Hayes Anderson Hatcher.

Omie's interests were a reflection of her vibrant personality. She relished the simple pleasures of life, such as getting her hair and nails done, indulging in shopping sprees, and enjoying meals at her favorite restaurant, "Sonny's BBQ." Her love for her family was fierce and unwavering; she was a constant presence at her grandchildren's events, celebrating their achievements and offering her support.

Omie's legacy is one of love, service, and joy. She lived her life with grace and generosity, touching the hearts of those around her. Her spirit will continue to shine brightly in the memories of her family and friends. Omie Durden's journey through life was a testament to the beauty of a heart that loves without limits, and she will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her.

A funeral service for Ms. Omie will be held in the chapel of McAlpin Funeral Home on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, beginning at 10:00 AM Central Time with Rev. Stuart Upton officiating. Interment will follow at Mount Pleasant Cemetery. A time of visitation will be held on Monday, August 4, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM Central Time at McAlpin Funeral Home.

Serving as active pallbearers are Shane Yon, Peyton Yon, Noah Godwin, Brian Godwin, Vance Smith, and Dale Mitchell.
