Yacy Bessa

Yacy Bessa, age 90, passed away peacefully on July 5, 2025, with loving family by her side.

Yacy was born in Manaus, Brazil, January 16, 1935, to the late Fernando D'Oliveira and Wanda Silva D'Oliveira. She came to America in 1957 and married her loving husband of 27 years, Amadio John Bessa May 13, 1967. Amadio passed away June 28, 1994.

In addition to her parents and husband, Yacy was also predeceased by two sisters, Peta and Valdete.

Those left to cherish her memory are her loving son, Edward J. Bessa, his wife, Dawn L. Bessa, and their son, Alexander J. Bessa; her sisters, Vanderlina, Wilma, Dina, Maria, and Fernanda; and, many loving nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews; and great-great-nieces and nephews.

Yacy had many loves and passions. She had a green thumb, evidenced by all of the beautiful flowers and plants she grew. She also liked to create beauty through knitting and crocheting. She loved the challenge of a good word puzzle while listening to her favorite Brazilian music in the background. When the television was on, you would find her enjoying a good soap opera on the Spanish channel or rooting on the Carolina Panthers football team.

She also absolutely loved kids, of course those in her family, but also ones who she would meet while she was out. They always brought a smile to her face, and she inevitably brought a smile to their faces. She loved to take care of people and that is why many in her family, even those older than her, would consider and love her like a second mother. Furthermore, she absolutely loved "her boys" - her son, Edward who was always #1 until Alexander was born and became the focal point of Yacy's love and attention.

And her truest love was for her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She believed in God, in the goodness of people, and the ultimate salvation that comes while walking in a relationship with God. Although the family will miss Yacy here, they know that she is rejoicing in Heaven and looking upon them with a loving smile.

A visitation will be held at Cabarrus Funeral Cremation & Cemetery, July 11, 2025, from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m., located at 3892 NC Hwy 73 E., in Concord, N.C. 28025. The funeral service will begin at 1 p.m., followed by a graveside service and then reception.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that you consider a donation in Yacy's memory to St. Judes.
