Yasu Fernandes, 93, of Keapana Valley passed away peacefully at home on July 5, 2025. She was born in Itoman, Okinawa on September 25, 1931.

Yasu grew up on Okinawa where she experienced and survived the most horrendous war that left her and her brothers orphaned. She married the late Antone J. Fernandes of Kalaheo, Kauai (who was an electrician for the Army) and worked as a custodian at KCC for over 15 years. She spent her retirement tending to her plants, her flower garden and going for walks with friends. Yasu's greatest joy came from being with family. Holiday's were exciting when she would serve Ozoni and her famous shrimp and vegetable tempura! She was a person of deep faith and love in our Lord Jesus Christ; whose arms she flew into when she left this earth.

She was preceded in passing by her husband, Antone J. Fernandes; mother, Yushi Tamashiro; father, Jiro Uehara; sister, Fusako Uehara; brothers, Chiyokichi Uehara, Ichiro Uehara, Yasuo Uehara and Yoshiro Uehara.

Yasu is survived by her daughter, June Muñoz; son, Anthony (Belma) Fernandes; brother, Takashi Uehara; grandchildren, Leela (Billy) Parbo, Sachi (DJ) Muñoz and Makana (Kacey) Muñoz; great-grandchildren, Kainoa Muñoz, Dione (Brison) Maglinti, Kailee (Ezra) Maglinti, Kamalei Parbo, Anela Parbo, Selah Muñoz Kuwamura, Lilia Muñoz Kuwamura, Mehana Muñoz Kuwamura and Kainalu Muñoz and great-great-grandchildren, Kailea Estrella, Kalalea Estrella and Xaden Nacapuy.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Lihue Neighborhood Center on November 15, 2025 @ 10:00 AM.
